Warlord Games’ ECW Royalist Infantry

One of the first kits out of Warlord Games that I worked on was the Pike and Shotte Royalist Infantry box. The guys in the shop were thinking of doing some ECW.

I had a rather hard time choosing which side I was going to take and I remember seeing a picture of the King’s Lifeguard during my research that made me choose the Royalist.

This kit was very easy to put together and look great. It was painted using exclusively Army Painter products. However, since these were painted a few years ago, its amazing to note how they look now.

The figures were dipped with Army Painter’s Dark Quickshade and when they were first dipped were very glossy looking. Today, the look nice and weathered, the shine almost all gone. This is interesting for me as it shows that sometimes you don’t need to Matt protect the figure to get the shine to matt-out. The colors were enhanced with the dip and still have a great look today.

I really hate paint irregular infantry, there are only a few “regimented” looking troops (the Newcastle regiment was white and I hate painting white). Choosing the King’s Lifeguard and doing a little research nudged me to get these done.

Completing the regiment took a few weeks

I based them on a 40×40 base so I can easily move the formations around when playing Pike & Shotte and honestly its easier to store and carry.
