Scott's a painting masochist. Aztecs and Hawaiians are incredibly complex to paint.

I brought 5 armies to the demo yesterday.
1) Hindu Indian
2) Early Samurai
3) Later Hoplite Greek - Spartan
4) Sea Peoples
5) Later Achaemenid Persian

Demos were only run with the Spartans against Hindus and Samurai.

I've left the Sea Peoples and Hindu Indians with Wolf though so if anyone wants to try a Blade or Elephant army out, now's your chance.

For bases --> hit the local painting store for balsawood. Easiest to cut and just super-glue figures on. Try Win's art store in Kelana Jaya or Art-Friends at Gardens, Mid-Valley (near Borders).

For terrain --> buy brown and green felt and cut to correct dimensions. Easiest to place figures on. Alternatively, brown and green cloth if unable to get felt.

Flags --> http://www.warflag.com/flags/medieval/medieval.shtml (Warflag has a good selection. Print out using a colour printer)

I remember buying it from a ladie's craft/embroidery/sewing shop in Ampang Park. I dunno how to classify those shops which sell everything from thread to velcro to cross-stitch.

Should also be available from some of those sewing or embroidery shops in SS2 or Sea Park though.

Hey Dave, you didn't give them the 1 sen coin tip! Smile

Glue some 1 sen coins under the balsa wood base to give it weight on the bottom and some structural stiffness, plus the ferrous 1 sen coins enable you to stick the minis on magnetic strips glued to your figure case - which I thought was pretty cool.

Errm...that wasn't a trade secret, was it, Dave? Razz

Nope, not a trade secret. I just didn't think about it as it's quite difficult to obtain magnetic sheets in KL (unless you know where in which case please tell...) and 1 cent coins aren't available anymore (which is why I have a small hoard in my house). I bought a few magnetic sheets (SGD 2-3 per sheet) from Singapore last time I was down but my stock is running low.

In any case, it is good to glue some stiffening to the balsa wood to ensure that it does not break or crack along the grain.

It's a haberdashery.

Such a cool name to pronounce...
"I'm a haberdasher."
Almost as cool as "Apothecarist" or "Alchemist".

Hmm... Makes me want to register the name "The Apothecarist" for a business. Just imagine, a bunch of nerds carrying D&D4E sourcebooks and saying, "Onwards to the Apothecarist!"

In time, I can also turn it into a bar with my own brew of poisons on tap.

Hmm... maybe this is OOT....

Best idea I've got so far is sheet steel. I've still got a sheet from some DIY project, and I've got the steel cutting blade for my jigsaw to cut out the lengths.

Debating whether I'll just cut them to size, and grind down a bit of the corners.

Or take the trouble to actually fold back the edges so that it doesn't slice my fingers...

Or there's that white packing plastic that Khairul used to make his FOW carry-case. I've got a few pieces of that. It's not aesthetically pleasing. But it will be very easy to cut.

Actually, in Indonesia, pharmacies are called "Apotek" so this is not that unusual.

Also, I think "Apotech" is a cooler job title than "Pharmacist."

Time for another DBA demo.

I'll be running a DBA demo this saturday at 2.30pm for those who are interested.

I'll bring along a few armies. Do bring along any armies you might have as well for more variety.
