Guild Ball : Mortician’s Guild – Graves

Guildball from Steamforged Games arrived in the store in July and we could not wait to give this game a go. Sales were swift for the starters as players slowly chose their guilds to represent.

Personally, I like the idea of Guildball. Its just six figures that you need to paint minimum and the tactical options are quite vast.

I chose to play the Mortician’s Guild, and quickly moved that off the shelf and into my painting line which was already considerably long.

There it stayed for months.

Last Monday, i bit the bullet and decided to paint it. I do want to play some Guildball and I did not want to wait anymore.

The cleaning of the figure was easy enough. Minimal flash and mould lines. (I tend to miss mould lines so this was good for me)

The assembly however was a little frustrating. It took me at least 15 minutes to get the arm to hold. I use super glue and many a drop went into trying to get the arm placed right.

The figure was then based using the Army Painter Uniform Grey and a directional spray of Army Painter’s Matt White.

I decided to paint the face first and also decided to use white/off white for the hair, instead of black. This gave Graves an older look which I quite like.

The details on the figure is very good and forces you to not neglect them. Which is great  because there is a lot of detail on the figure.

I also did the straps a more leather look instead of the dull black, and repeated this for the gloves as well.

The trick then was to bite down and just lay down as much flat paint as possible. By experience, this is usually where a lot of painters just give up and begin to use the figures to play. I admit, this is also a hard part for me. But just a little bit more, gets you very very far.

I did not want to dwell to much on the figure and this figure took about 2 hours to complete.
